Custom handmade drums and percussions
Welcome to my website.
I offer custom production, all kinds of repairs, modifications, but also refurbishment of your instruments. Below you will find a few samples of my custom work. There are no limits to your imagination and it is entirely up to you how your drum or the whole set will sound and look! You can choose between any wood species, hardware, surface treatment, dimensions, body thicknesses, bearing edges, drumheads… and in short, anything you can think of. I look forward to your ideas and imaginations.
BEECH SNARE DRUM
This drum, like most Dabadum drums, has a shell constructed with stave technology. That means that it is glued from vertical blocks of solid wood, in this case from a carefully selected Beech. The shell is 13mm thick and dimensions are 14×8″. Hardware is in a classic chrome design and the surface treatment of the body is a high-gloss, epoxy varnish applied in several layers and then polished to a high-gloss finish. The bearing edges have an external profile of 4.75 mm radius and an internal 45 degrees. This instrument produces a very warm sound, but at the same time, thanks to the slightly thicker body, it can also be very loud.
ASH SNARE DRUM
A special drum for a special customer, who is Matěj Leš – the great-grandson of the famous Antonín Barton, Jr., a successful ski racer and ski manufacturer. One of the photos in the gallery shows A. Bartoň the elder, who started making skis in Vysoké nad Jizerou around 1906. The photo is from around 1930. The drum is meant to remind the Bartoň family, the golden Czech hands and mainly, the old workshop where the skis have been made. And why a drum? That’s because in the same old workshop, instead of skis, Dabadum drums are made today.
The snare is made of the very old, approx. 70-year-old ash lumber, which I like so much now, and which served as the material for the production of those skis. The logo is burned with an old stamp, which was used to mark skis back in those days of their production. The size of the snare is 14×6″, the thickness of the body is 8mm and the bearing edges are common sharp 45 degrees. Drum is finished in hand-rubbed hardwaxoil.
WALNUT SNARE DRUM
14×7.5″ drum shell is made of walnut heartwood with glued and stained beech strips in milled grooves. Body thickness is 15mm, sharp 45/45° bearing edges and quality hardware in black chrome finish, including the diecast rims. The finish of the exterior and interior of the drum is made with a special oil and wax.
CHERRY SNARE DRUM
Do you have your own wood that you have an affinity for and would like to turn it into a musical instrument? Dabadum also fulfills such wishes! This drum is made of cherry wood, which the customer supplied himself. The tree grew in the countryside near his grandparents house and he liked to climb it as a child. Today he can happily drum on it.
.
The dimension is 14×6.25″. The body is glued from 16 pieces of massive cherry stave segments and is machined to a final thickness of 11 mm. The fitted rims are made from ash, also of my own production. The sharp 45°/45° bearing edges give the drum maximum sensitivity even at the lowest dynamics and at the same time enough readability, clarity and attack at higher dynamics.
